Jivdhan

Jivdhan Fort
Location: Jivdhan is situated in the vicinity of Naneghat. Of the 4 guards of Naneghat, Jivdhan is the closest to Naneghat (Hadsar, Chavand and Shivneri being other 3 forts). One can trek it from Kokan side through Naneghat and then reach the base village of Jivdhan-Ghatghar or one can directly reach Ghatghar by road via Junnar. One can ride up to Ghatghar via Malshej Ghat and camp at the base or set up camp up the hill next to the fort.

Precaution: If you trek from Ghatghar side, there is a rock patch at the end. It’s not very difficult and also not so easy, but still one should be careful. Carry a rope if possible. Water at the top is clean however you can use any kind of purifier if possible. Don’t try to light any kind of fire in the granary house as you will not be able to breathe as there is no ventilation in there.

Sight Seeing: In 1818, the British captured the forts here and destroyed them. Jivdhan too became a victim and the main entrance was destroyed. Even today the marks of those wounds cannot go unnoticed as we climb the fort.Fort has water cisterns, Granary, Kalyan Darwaja, Vanarlingi etc. Naneghat looks fantastic from the Kalyan darwaja side. The Morning sunrise is also a magical sight. Some say when the British conquered this fort they burnt the granary house and the ashes from them still found on the floor of the granary house.
